Frequently asked questions
What is Nisab?
Nisab is the minimum wealth threshold above which Zakat becomes obligatory — traditionally the value of 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver, held for one full lunar year.
Should I use the gold or silver Nisab?
Silver Nisab is lower in value, so more people qualify to pay — many scholars consider it the more precautionary (and generous to recipients) choice. This calculator lets you pick either.
Do I need to enter today's gold/silver price?
Yes — gold and silver prices change daily, so enter the current rate per gram for an accurate result. This tool doesn't fetch live prices automatically.
Is this religious guidance?
No — this is a calculation aid only. For rulings on what counts as zakatable wealth in your specific situation, consult a qualified scholar.
